Worcester Evening News 28th December, 1979.

A FEW years ago the name of the Sunningdale was a dirty word in the Worcestershire vocabulary.
Most county people were shocked and horrified when this newspaper exposed the apalling conditions under which score of the homeless families were forced to live on this former holiday estate in the beautiful Teme valley at Knightwick.
Our investigations led to questions by Members of Parliament and inquiries by district and county councils.
But now a Stourport property developer Mr Cyril Haynes is determined to bury once and for all the stigma that is still attached to Sunningdale.
He took over the 30 acre site with breath-taking scenery two years ago and is planning to restore it to its former glory.
"Of course I was aware of its reputation when I aquired Sunningdale but I was not put off." said 37 year old Mr Haynes.
I am a developer and I just regarded this as another project.
"In fact it's much easier because we already have this wonderful site with its unrivalled views."
The first thing Mr Haynes did was to rid the site of most of the old wooden chalets with their lack of proper services which were "home" to many unfortunate families.
RETREAT
They have been replaced by bright modern dwellings with all mod cons which are now being offered for sale.
Mr Haynes believes they willl appeal to retired professional people wanting to live in the country and city dwellers looking for a country retreat.
"We have only just started advertising but we have had a terrific response and already the first ones are sold."
Mr Haynes has planning permission for 38 housing units and when building is completed in two years time he believes it will be a "model village" which will be looked on with pride.
