MR. J. W. JONES Mr. John William Jones, of Hay-wood Cottage, Ankerdine Hill, Knightwick, a member of Martley Rural District Council for 27 years, died at Worcester Royal Infirmary on Sunday [9th December], aged 79. Mr. Jones, who had been sub-postmaster at Knightwick for 33 years, was well known and highly respected. He was a founder-member of the Ankerdine Lodge of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes, and held the highest offices of the Lodge. He was also a founder-member of Knightwick and Broadwas British Legion, being a former secretary and treasurer. As a councillor he was most assiduous in, his duties, and a very regular attendant at meetings of the Council and Finance and Planning Committees. He first became a member of Martley Council and the old Board of Guardians in 1929. Until recent years he was an active worker for the Conservative cause. He retired from his duties of postmaster in 1952, being succeeded by his daughter. Mrs. J. E. Holland. He also leaves a widow and three sons. The funeral service took place at Knightwick Church on Wednesday [12th December], conducted by the Rector of Knightwick (the Rev. 0liver Davies). Mrs. John Walker was the organist. Interment was at Knightwick Cemetery. Family mourners were the widow, Mr. and Mrs, J. E. Holland (son-in law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones (son and daughter-in-law), Mr, Reginald Jones and Mr, Roland Jones (sons), Mr. G. Jones and Mr. N. Jones (grandsons), Mr. A. Grubham (brother-In-law) Mr. and Mrs. J. Grubham and Mr, and Mrs. H. Grubham (brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law), Mrs. K. Hall (cousin), Mr. and Mrs. D. Hunt, Mr. and Mrs. A. Farrell, Mr. and Mrs. S. Moss, Mr. and Mrs M. Doman, Mrs. S. Ganderton and Mrs. B. Baylis (also representing Mrs. Roberts). Among the congregation were Mr. J. Currell (assistant head post-master, Worcester) and Mr. R. H. Glover (head post office, Worcester), Mr. and Mrs. John Walker. Mr. J. Bennett, Mr. Ben Pugh, Mr. D. Baird, Mr. R. H. Hodges (clerk), and Mr. A. L. Pratt (surveyor) represented Martley R.D.C. An apology for absence was received from Mr. F. B. Jacomb (Chairman, Martley R. D. C.), Members of the local British Legion present included Mr. M. Armstrong (Chairman), Mr. R. Oliver (secretary), Mr. G. James, Mr. C. Robinson, Mr. C. Edwards, Mr. J. Roach, Mr. W. Lewis and Mr. C. Ganderton. Wreaths were sent by the widow; daughter; three sons and grand-children; Harry and Alice; Jim and Emily; Albert; Winnie (sister), Michael and Edith; Martley R.D.C.; Members of British Legion; Mr. and Mrs. Webb; Mr. and Mrs. White; Mr. and Mrs. Whittle; Nurse O'Brien; Mr, and Mrs. H.
