This is my great-grandfather, John Lloyd Jones. It's quite wonderful to have this photograph of one of my great-grandparents.
I have photographs from the family and one of them shows the same gentleman with my grandfather, John William Jones, his son Francis Cuthbert Jones and his son, Gordon Philip Lloyd Jones. This photo was obviously taken to show the four generations. Then a further photograph showing a Public House with my great-grandfather sat proudly in the centre of a group of patrons, with a sign over the door saying 'John L. Jones, Licensed to sell Ale, Porter, Wines, Spirit and Tobacco'.
Through these photographs I can see that this one is of him.
As I have gained information, I have seen that he was a gardener, landscaper and though he may have had a Public House, I have still not traced its where about.

Jones and his wife Catherine Jones are both buried in Calverhall Churchyard,
Shropshire. |

On the original fiche I could not make out the letter in John's name but it may well be a capital L for Lloyd. What was on it was "seedsman, gardener, florist" (this wasn't on the electronic version) and that he had his own account, working from home. (Fact: He was a gardener-landscaper) |

Fanny May Jones - (in the 1901 census they just used her second name). |

Nora Jones. Born: circa 1898-99 |

The information now shows that I have found my grandfather John William Jones, born in Congleton, my great-aunt, Annie Elizabeth Jones (Aunt Winnie), born in Congleton my great-aunt, Fanny May Jones, born in Whitchurch, another great-aunt?, Nora Ellison Jones, born in Grantham (this aunt we did not know) and their mother's name, Harriet (Ellison) Jones |
||||
Fanny May Jones was mother to Norah Mary Hayward, Mabel Lloyd Hayward and Doris Winifred Hayward. Mabel married Sidney Ralph Ganderton and their family has been close to ours for many years. You can use the following link to view the |

It was interesting to find this census of my grandparents as by the November of that year they were in Cardiff, where they had their first child, Francis Cuthbert Jones, Born: 13th November, 1901. and that Grandpa's given occupation then was Baker. After that he became a Journeyman Butcher and spent some time at Tippton in Dudley working for Marsh and Baxters. I think my grandmother wanted to be closer to her parents and after this they lived in Worcester, where they had three more children before moving to Knightwick and settling down at the Post Office. |
